A general strike among the Arab-Palestinian

citizens of Israel and a rally in Tel-Aviv against house demolitions

Statement from the Communist Party of Israel

The Arab citizens of Israel will hold tomorrow (Tuesday, 28.4) a general strike, protesting the governmental policy of demolishing the homes of Arab citizens in the Galilee, Negev, the Triangle area, and in the mixed cities.

The Supreme Follow-Up Committee of the Arab Population in Israel is calling for a rally in Rabin Square, at the center of Tel-Aviv, at 17:00.

"Our strike is aimed at raising the voice of the Arab citizens, who are suffering from an acute housing problem, home demolitions and land confiscation. The Arab municipalities have limited territorial jurisdiction, and their outline plans are not approved by the Ministry of Interior", said a statement by the Follow-Up Committee.

"By holding the rally in the center of Tel-Aviv, we are sending a message to the Jewish population, to stand by the Arab citizens together against the destructive and inciting policies of the Netanyahu government, which tries to lead towards a conflict".

"The Follow-Up Committee reiterates its position, that the right to housing is an elementary right of every citizen, and should be respected and kept by the state".

Members of Knesset from the Joint List, elected officials and intellectuals, Jews and Arabs, are expected to participate in the rally.
