ISRAEL:THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF ISRAEL CONDEMN THE DETENTION AND EXPULSION FROM ISRAEL OF ALEXANDRA LIBERI LEADER OF THE WORLD FEDERATION OF WORKERS TRADE UNION

Dear comrades and friends,

The Communist Party of Israel expresses its rage at the harassment of comrade Alexandra Liberi of WFTU, and strongly condemns her detention at Tel Aviv Airport for many hours and her final expulsion from Israel.

It seems that the uglier the conduction of Israel becomes, the more it tries to hide it by presenting a false and deceitful image of itself, by labelling any external criticism as "anti-Semitism", and by persecuting and intimidating domestic critics of its policies. Thus, the harassment of comrade Liberi (just like many other cases of a similar character) should be understood within the broader context of Israeli fascist-like endeavour to silence artists, academics, writers and others within Israel proper.

The CPI expresses its full solidarity with comrade Liberi and the WFTU, and with the Palestinian people who continuously suffer under Israeli brutal occupation and intimidation.

We call on to all communist and workers' parties to join forces and condemn Israel for its ongoing human rights abuses in the occupied Palestinian territories and within the state of Israel proper.
