Addressing a well attended public meeting in Berhampur, Odisha, CPI(M) General Secretary, Prakash Karat, called upon the people to reject the Congress which has ruined the nation during its tenure and also defeat the BJP, which is being backed by the corporate houses.
Prakash Karat cited the example of price rise in petroleum products during UPA-2 to show how the government promoted anti people policies.
He also said that the BJP, which aims to implement the Gujarat model, also follows the same path. The so-called Gujarat model has only promoted industrialists like the Ambanis and the Adanis and that Gujarat has been a center of corruption and communal violence, which Modi himself orchestrated in 2002.
He added that there is no difference between Congress, BJP and Biju Janta Dal which has been ruling Odisha for long as far as economic people policies are concerned. It is only an alternative based on alternative policies that can provide relief to the people. He appealed to the people to vote for CPI (M) candidates in the upcoming elections to the Lok Sabha and assembly in the state.
The rally was also addressed by CPI (M) State Secretariat member Jagannath Mishra, CPI National Council member N.Narayan Reddy, CPI(M) Lok Sabha candidate Com Ali Kishore Patnaik and Berhampur MLA candidate Basant Nanda. The District Secretariat member of the Party, Com Kailash Shadangi, presided over the meeting.
The public meeting was preceded by a colorful procession which marched through the city. A bike rally was also carried out separately.
